Social Entrepreneurship Symposium and Non-Profit Pitch Competition

The ODU Enactus team and Strome Entrepreneurial Center are hosting a Social Entrepreneurship Symposium and Non-Profit Pitch Competition on Friday, September 18, 2015 as part of Public Service Week. The event is from 3-6:30 p.m. in the Strome Entrepreneurial Center.

The format for the Symposium is designed around six subject-matter experts conducting concurrent 20-minute sessions. The schedule will allow for three concurrent sessions - this will allow attendees to interact with three different subject matter experts. Siix topics have been identified that regularly come up in conversations Enactus and the SEC have about social entrepreneurship and non-profits. These are listed below, along with the subject matter experts who have volunteered to share their expertise.

1. Marketing/PR/social media - Matt Paddock, Director of Engagement at GROW Interactive
2. Fundraising - Keith Curtis, CEO of The Curtis Group
3. Legal considerations - David Kamer, Kaufman and Canoles
4. Working effectively with an advisory board - Dr. Katrina Miller-Stevens, SCB School of Public Service
5. Strategic planning - Lee Entsminger, Entsminger Consulting
6. Human resource considerations - Nancy Grden, Director of The Strome Entrepreneurial Center

The Non-Profit Pitch Competition is focused on solutions to three social problems affecting the Hampton Roads area - sea-level rise (impact on individuals, families, etc.); generational homelessness; and the hunger gap (individuals who do not qualify for social service benefits but do not have sufficient resources to feed their family to the end of every month).

The format for the Competition consists of the preliminary round judging completed prior to the Symposium, with three finalists presenting for a panel of judges at the conclusion of the Symposium. All finalists will receive a cash award and free consultation to help move their idea forward towards implementation. Detailed information about the Non-Proft Pitch Competition, including instructions for submitting an entry, are available here.

Refreshments will be provided. The event is free, however pre-registration is required. REGISTER NOW.
