XSEDE Workshop: Big Data | September 12-13
Dear ODU research community,
There is no doubt that “Big Data” is a very popular term today. It has indeed reached into all areas including science, medicine, engineering, and business. But what is Big Data exactly? How can one actually process a very large amount of data to gain insights, make predictions, and drive business decisions and scientific discoveries?
The ODU Research Computing Services is pleased to host the highly popular, two-day XSEDE Big Data Workshop:
Tuesday and Wednesday, September 12–13
11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Webb Center, Potomac and York River Rooms (rooms 1305–1306)
This workshop is presented by the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) and simulcast at ODU. This hands-on workshop will introduce you to powerful technologies which make Big Data computing a reality today: tools such as Hadoop, Spark, and Tensorflow, and state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning. The programming exercises uses Python computer language.
Since this is a technical workshop, we recommend that participants have some basic experience in command-line interaction and computer programming in any language to gain the most out of the workshop. (However, we still encourage anyone interested to participate.) Attendees will have access to PSC's Bridges Supercomputer to apply the lessons through hands-on exercises. Please bring your own laptop in order to complete the exercises.
