Science Cafe at the Slover Library - July 20th
Slover Library has teamed up with Old Dominion University for a quarterly "Science Cafe!" Join us for light snacks and an intriguing discussion with members of the ODU Department of Physics. (Adults & Families) Cuisine Café
This month's topic is Patterns in Nature: A Treasure Trove for the Curious!
This informal talk will include many pictures of patterns - some obvious and some not - that are visible in the natural world around us. I will draw attention in particular to phenomena that occur in meteorological optics: rainbows, ice crystal halos, glories, sundogs and sun pillars, but we will spend some time examining waves on the surface of puddles, ponds and the ocean, and in clouds! The only requirements are an interest in nature and a willingness to ask questions - which is a pretty good definition of science!
