Win a Free Telescope at the Pretlow Planetarium

ODU’s Pretlow Planetarium is proud to bring you a variety of shows this season. The fall planetarium season continues every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6:00pm through December 18th, except for Thanksgiving night.

All shows are free and open to the public, and families are always welcome. You do not need tickets or to make any reservations. The doors to the Planetarium will open at approximately 5:45 with the shows to start promptly at 6:00. We are located on West 45th Street, one block west of Hampton Boulevard. Parking is available in the Elkhorn Avenue Garage at the corner of Elkhorn Avenue and West 43rd Street. Please park on floors 3 and 4 of the garage. You can also visit our website at www.odu.edu/planetarium for more information.

September and October

Tuesdays, 6pm - As a new feature, we will be having Trivia Tuesdays throughout September and October. Test your knowledge of random facts as you compete each week to win the grand prize of your very own telescope (http://www.celestron.com/browse-shop/astronomy/telescopes/powerseeker-127eq-telescope). Each week top winners get two entries into a drawing for the telescope, and second place gets one entry. The drawing for the telescope will be during the last Trivia Tuesday on October 28th.

For all rules of Trivia Tuesday, please click the link below. First will be a live show using our state of the art digital planetarium to show off fun and interesting astronomical objects. Our second feature will be a full-dome movie.

Full-dome movie for the weeks of 9/22 and 9/29 - Black Holes: Journey into the Unknown

November and December

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6pm - Throughout all of November and December we will be bringing back our wildly popular live show and telescope combination. With the Sun setting in the early evening, come to the Planetarium to learn what's in the current night sky, and then head outside with several of our telescopes to view them yourself. If the weather is bad (clouds, rain, or snow) then the telescopes will have to be cancelled for that night. Follow us on Twitter @ODUplanetarium where we’ll try to let you know if the weather is clear enough for telescopes, what the show topic is for each week, fun objects in the night sky, and just post new and exciting information going on in the world of astronomy.
