This Chair Rocks: How Ageism Warps Our View of Long Life

On Thursday, October 9, from 6-8PM, in BAL 1012, The Institute for the Humanities will be co-sponsoring:

This Chair Rocks: How Ageism Warps Our View of Long Life by Ashton Applewhite — a talk + conversation about why the more you know about old age the better it looks—and why so few people know it.

Part monologue, part consciousness-raiser, This Chair Rocks dispels myth after myth about late life and exposes the ageism that underlies all the hand-wringing. The talk is as funny as it is fierce, and it just might change the way you envision the rest of your life. Ashton Applewhite is the voice of Yo Is This Ageist (http://yoisthisageist.com/) and has been writing about ageing and ageism since 2007 at This Chair Rocks (http://www.thischairrocks.com/).

The conversation following the talk will by facilitated by ODU University Professor Dr. Tom Socha. Please see the attached flier.

The event is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the Department of Communications & Theatre Arts, The Center for Global Health, the Women's Center, the Office of Intercultural Relations, and the Institute for Learning in Retirement.

Please help spread the word among colleagues and students, especially those with interest in senior citizen rights, ageism, health and wellness, and gender issues.

If you would like to attend this event, please let Stacey Parks (sparks@odu.edu) know. Thank you!
