Lietzenmayer</p> <p> Old Dominion University</p> <p> Department of Communication & Theatre Arts </p> <p> As Audre Lorde said, "It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.” This lecture will explore the role of communication in modeling inclusive and ethical leadership behaviors in a diverse setting or group. We will discuss how we as leaders have the responsibility to regularly evaluate our communication behaviors and goals. We will then discuss methods to improve communication within our organizations and groups, as well as how to use our position as leaders to encourage diversity affirming and inclusive language, plans, and behaviors within shared spaces.</p> <p> <strong>Expected Outcomes:</strong></p> <p> Attendees will be able to contextualize the aspects of power they exercise as leaders and recognize ways to improve relationships between and among groups with ethical, constructive communication. Additionally, attendees will improve their ability to observe, address, and facilitate dialogue among members of a diverse community.
