<p> <strong><u>Monday, November 12</u></strong></p> <p> <em>Diwali “Festival of Lights”</em></p> <p> TED Convocation Center | 6:00pm-8:00pm</p> <p> India’s largest and most important national holiday of the year has been celebrated throughout the centuries by most Indians around the world regardless of faith: Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs. The festival receives its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (or deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects people from spiritual darkness.</p> <p> Experience Diwali: Traditional Dress and Dance, Fashion Show, Henna Tattoo, and Indian Cuisine</p> <p> </p> <p> <strong><u>Tuesday, November 13</u></strong></p> <p> <em>Islam Fair</em></p> <p> North Mall | 12:00pm-2:00pm</p> <p> Find answers to questions about Islam. A wide variety of books will be available to learn about Islam which include a biography of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Free copies available. This is an opportunity to set aside misconceptions about the religion.</p> <p> Sponsors: Muslim Student Association</p> <p> </p> <p> <em>Emerging Issues in International Student and Scholar Exchange: Student Mobility, Cultural Diplomacy, and Cross-Border Educational Exchange.</em></p> <p> Education Building, Room 150 | 12:15pm-1:50pm</p> <p> A panel discussion on emerging issues related to international student and scholar exchange in American higher education. Comprehensive internationalization often involves initiatives to increase international student enrollment; form cross-border research partnerships; and increase scholarly exchange. These trends, however, raise serious issues for institutions and policymakers including how best to support international students; the need to protect proprietary research information and outcomes; and the strategic use of scholarly exchange for U.S. international diplomatic purposes. This program explores the effects on the international poor, particularly women. Ms. Lora will discuss her research on ethical business models and economic justice. Anna Richerby of Beloved Beadwork will co-present via Skype from South Africa. Ms. Lora will share her experience working with Beloved Beadwork through her Women’s Studies short-term study abroad course in Cape Town, South Africa.</p> <p> </p> <p> <em>Muhammad: Legacy of A Prophet Documentary and Panel</em></p> <p> President’s Dining Room | 5:30pm-8:30pm</p> <p> A documentary showcasing the details of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) life; followed by a question-answer session.
