New Fall Course: Metropolis: Global Cities in Film and Texts

As we are all socially distancing and yearning for the ups and downs of great world cities, consider Fall 2020's new WCS/COMM/HUM 495-595 seminar "Metropolis: Global Cities in Texts and Film (Paris, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Vienna, Jerusamlem and more!) We will explore urban issues through the lenses of urban thinkers such as Jane Jacobs and Walter Benjamin, among many poets, novelists and filmmakers and the spaces they explore: cafes, restaurants, streets, metros, city centers and suburbs, the birth of the megapolis, and the seeking out of old neighborhoods and traditions, parks and museums.  Explore the wonders and the horrors of the modern city as we appreciate not only cultural differences around the world but the ties that bind us.
