Get Up to Speed Fast With CLT's Online Workshops

The Center for Learning and Teaching is offering the following short, online-only workshops covering the basics of setting up your class in Blackboard and Zoom:

  • Bb: Essentials: Provides an overview of ODU’s Blackboard Default Template and explains how to share instructional materials and communicate with your students through Bb. It also includes tips for novice online instructors who want to learn how to create content for an online course.
  • Bb: Assessments: Explores the assessment tools within a Blackboard course.
  • Zoom Essentials: Introduces Zoom, an online meeting tool where faculty, staff, and students can engage in synchronous collaboration using text, audio, and video.
  • Respondus Essentials: Introduces Respondus, a tool for preparing and managing exams that can be published directly to Blackboard.
  • Bb: Welcoming Your Students to the Online Environment: Tips and tools for creating a welcome message, addressing special needs and limitations, creating an introductory video, and more.
  • Managing Your Online Presence: Covers design and organization, direct instruction, and how to facilitate discourse.
  • Bb: Organizing Your Online Course: Covers how to create a basic course menu; create a module template for organization; create an assignment, a topic, and a resource folder for organization; organize pages using the item feature; and organize headings on the page.
  • Planning and Facilitating Quality Online Discussions: Tips and strategies for transferring your face-to-face discussions online using a Blackboard discussion forum, or for creating new discussions.
  • Recording Effective Mini-Lectures: How to organize your lectures into chunks that will keep students’ attention, how to prepare a script that is easy for you to read; how to create a recording environment so that you have good video and audio quality, and more.
  • Engaging Your Students in Readings and Mini-Lectures: Tips and strategies for engaging your students.
  • Assessing and Proctoring Exams: Explores key assessment options and how assessments affect student learning and performance in the online environment.
  • Providing Timely Feedback to Your Students: Focuses on how to give effective feedback, and options for doing so.
