400th Event- STEM Education Conference
Dear Monarch Community,
Science Educators for Equity, Diversity and Social Justice (SEEDS) is an organization committed to researching, building, and sustaining transformative educational opportunities in STEM teaching/education with all students through critical engagement. Therefore, in honor of the 1619-2019 Commemoration events taking place around the nation, the ODU President's Task Force on Inclusive Excellence will host the 2019 SEEDS conference as a mechanism to bring together locally and nationally recognized researchers, scholars, educators, and change agents who are interested in fostering a "collective responsibility for creating a just and equitable society through transformative action in/through science."
On October 11-14, SEEDS will hold it biannual conference at Old Dominion in the College of Education and Professional Studies to build on the work from the last conference, which was held at UC Davis in California. In support of the 400th anniversary, the conference theme is "Reclaiming the Profession: Science Teaching and Science Teacher Education as Social Justice." This is a great opportunity to collaborate with local and national researchers and practitioners in STEM and related fields to build agency toward improved practice and strategies for engagement of all stakeholders. Peer reviewed research will be shared along with best practices for finding the nexus between conducting high quality research and culturally relevant teaching and learning to engage all learners.
Conference registration is open to all students, faculty, staff, and community members (i.e. PK-12 schools, libraries, community foundations, etc.). The registration deadline is September 16 @ 11:59 EST.
