Accessing Files in the Monarch Virtual Environment
In an effort to keep University data as secure as possible, we are removing access to the administrative and academic department shared file directories (J: and K: drives) from within the Monarch Virtual Environment (move.odu.edu) beginning October 8.
If you need to access files stored on these directories while working in a virtual environment, there are a few solutions:
Access the NEW virtual environment through the campus VPN.
Connect to the campus VPN, go to eve.odu.edu (instead of move.odu.edu), and log in with your MIDAS ID and password. In this environment, you can use the General Lab Software pool to access your J: or K: drive.
If you do not already have a campus VPN account, visit odu.edu/ts/software-services/ciscovpn for more information about requesting VPN access.
Copy your files to your home directory (H: drive).
You will still be able to access the H: drive from MOVE. This may be the best option if you work in a specialized pool like Engineering or ArcGIS, since these pools are not available through the VPN option.
Use cloud storage options (with caution).
You can access files from online storage services like Box and OneDrive within MOVE, but be mindful of restrictions on the types of University data that can be stored in the cloud. See odu.edu/apps/storage_options/ for more information.
Please contact the ITS Help Desk at itshelp@odu.edu with any questions or concerns.
