Fall 2016-17 John R. Broderick Diversity Champion Award
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Nominations for the 2016- 17 John R. Broderick Diversity Champion Award are now OPEN! Sponsored by Old Dominion University's (ODU) Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity, this award is designed to celebrate individuals within the ODU campus and surrounding Hampton Roads community who encourage and advance values related to diversity, inclusion and equity. In honor of ODU's eighth president, The John R.Broderick Diversity Champion Award, is presented to individuals in the following categories: administration and employees, faculty, students and alumni and Hampton Roads Residents.
FALLSUBMISSIONS
Nominations are accepted during fall and spring semester. Fall nominations are due no later than October 25, and can be submitted by anyone. Nominators should explain how the nominee demonstrates the criterion and why this person should be considered for the John R. Broderick Diversity Champion Award. Clearly state how the nominee demonstrates
a sustained commitment to the ODU and/or surrounding Hampton Roads Community, supported by examples of innovation, creativity and leadership. Submit nominations online (www.odu.edu/ equity/diversity-award), by e- mail (officeofinstitutionalequitydiversity@odu.edu) or in person to The Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity located on ODU's campus at 1301 Spong Hall, Norfolk,VA 23529.
The John R. Broderick Diversity Champion Award selection committee ranks submitted applications according to outlined awards criteria. This is followed by a university- wide announcement of award recipients from The Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity. To laude the achievements of all nominees and award recipients, an end- of- the- year ceremony is held in their honor
SELECTION CRITERIA
This award is an acknowledgement bestowed upon meritorious individuals who actively promote values associated with diversity, inclusion and equity. Recipients should make significant contributions to and enhance ODU's learning environment and the Hampton Roads community through sustained commitments that improve opportunities for the diverse communities we serve.
Award recipients should demonstrate an exceptional understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity beyond the call of duty as represented by the following criteria:
- Develops innovative methods for increasing and valuing diversity, inclusion and equity through wide-range programs and initiatives and
- Demonstrates effective leadership that promote and advance inclusive working and learning environments on campus and/ or throughout the Hampton Roads community.
