What is AVID?
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a research-proven, college-readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll and persist in four-year colleges or universities, focusing on students in the academic middle who enroll in the AVID Elective course in grades 6 through 12.
Who are they looking for?
· College students who have completed at least 60 successful credit hours or more
· Hold a G.P.A of at least 2.8
· Motivated, organized, punctual, and collaborative
· Education, counseling, and STEM majors are preferred
AVID Tutor Responsibilities:
· Facilitate an inquiry-based tutorial process in small groups
· Assess student binders and organization, including notes, assignment sheets, and tutorial worksheets
· Work with students on any phase of the writing process and respond to student writing
· Communicate with the AVID elective teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern
· Attend all AVID tutor training sessions
