ODU Virginia Beach features poet Kathleen Aguero for National Poetry Month on April 21

ODU Virginia Beach will be celebrating National Poetry Month 2016 with Poet Kathleen Aguero on April 21, 2016, from 12:30-1:30pm in Lecture Hall 244. Aguero will be reading excerpts from her latest book After That, which will be followed by a reception and book signing.

After That, brings to the literary world a vivid glimpse into the world of dementia. It addresses the complicated emotions and confusion in caring for parents with advanced dementia. Aguero explains confrontations with dementia, while also examining the psyche of the caregiver –the former child– entering her own senior years.

Aguero’s common theme in all of her literary work, is survival.

Aguero has written six books as well as co-edited three volumes of multi-cultural literature for the University of Georgia Press. She teaches in the low-residency M.F.A. in creative writing program at Pine Manor College and in Changing Lives through Literature, an alternative sentencing program. She has conducted creative writing for caregivers          workshops privately and through adult and community education centers.
