NORFOLK CHAMBER CONSORT CONCLUDES ITS SEASON WITH "SHAKESPEARE 400 YEARS AFTER"

The Norfolk Chamber Consort, under the direction of Andrey Kasparov and Oksana Lutsyshyn, concludes its 47th season with "Shakespeare 400 Years After," a program presented as part of Old Dominion University's international conference dedicated to the great poet and dramatist.  The concert opens with several settings by two British composers: Ralph Vaughan Williams ("Three Songs from Shakespeare") performed by countertenor Scott Crissman, and Roxana Panufnik ("Sweet Love Remember'd" and "Mine Eye") as performed by mezzo soprano Stephanie Marx. Both Crissman and Marx will debut with the NCC, accompanied by its Artistic Co-Director Andrey Kasparov, who will also join soprano Elizabeth Hogue in a performance of "Songs of the Clown" by the Viennese composer Erich Korngold. The first half will conclude with the selections from Prokofiev’s ballet "Romeo and Juliet" as arranged for solo piano by the composer and performed by the NCC's Artistic Co-Director Oksana Lutsyshyn.

The second half opens with songs selections by two American composers: Virgil Thomson (three of his "Shakespeare Songs") performed by Crissman, and Amy Beach ("Three Songs from William Shakespeare") performed by Hogue. Both performances will be accompanied by Kasparov, who will then conduct Stravinsky's "Three Songs from William Shakespeare." Mezzo soprano Adriane Kerr will perform as mezzo soprano in the Stravinsky, with the instrumental ensemble comprised of flautist Wayla Chambo, clarinetist Patti Carlson and violist Stacey Migliozzi, who will also participate in the world premiere of "Full Fadom Five" by the American composer Mark Chambers.  Elizabeth Hogue will be featured as a soprano in this performance, with the composer on the electronic controls.  The evening will conclude with the world premiere of Andrey Kasparov's concert paraphrase of Shostakovich's opera "Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District" performed by the Invencia Piano Duo.

The event will be presented at Chandler Recital Hall at Old Dominion University in Norfolk on Monday, April 11, at 7:30 PM.

A pre-concert discussion by Andrey Kasparov will start at 7:15 PM.  A free reception after the concert will be provided by The Green Onion, a Ghent restaurant.

Ticket Prices: $25 general admission; $10 student
