ODU Virginia Beach presents the 14th Annual Holocaust Student Art Exhibit and reception 5/18

"14th Annual Elie Wiesel Holocaust Student Visual Arts Exhibit" Reception on May 18, 2016 at ODU Virginia Beach

Winning art works from the 14th Annual Elie Wiesel Holocaust Visual Arts Competition for Students will be exhibited in the Atrium at ODU Virginia Beach Higher Education Center from May 10 through May 31, 2016. The Holocaust Commission of the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater sponsors the competition and invites students in grades 6-12 to participate. This exhibit celebrates the power of the human spirit. This year there were a record number of art entries in the competition, and also a record number of senior entries! Entries were from Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake: 12 High Schools and 12 Middle Schools, including one middle school from North Carolina.

This annual competition is held in honor of Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. Through studying the Holocaust and its ties to modern genocide, civil rights and other historical constructs, students explore the issues of moral courage as well as the dangers of prejudice, peer pressure and indifference.

The exhibit’s reception will be 5:00 - 6:30p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 and is free and open to the public. ODU’s Virginia Beach campus is located at 1881 University Drive at the intersection of Princess Anne Road and concert Drive. Guests park in Lot #3.
