You Are Invited to Jefferson Lab's Open House
When: Saturday, April 30, rain or shine, from 9:00am - 3:00pm. Entry stops at 2:00pm
Where: 12000 Jefferson Ave., Newport News, VA 23606. No admission fee. Free parking. Enter at the intersection of Jefferson Ave. and Hogan Dr. in Newport News.
What: Explore the U.S. Department of Energy's Jefferson Lab - a world-class research facility. Learn about the kinds of experiments being conducted at the lab (nuclear physics: studying the building blocks of matter that form the universe), superconducting materials, supercomputing, particle accelerators, cryogenics and much more! Exhibits, demonstrations, lectures, tours and hands-on activities will provide a day of fun and learning for families and people of all ages! Many activities and exhibits are geared toward students. Photography and video-recording are welcome.
The event will be spread out over a loop of about two miles and involve walking, stairs and inclined truck ramps. Free shuttle buses will be available to carry visitors between most tour stops. Wear comfortable shoes & sunscreen. Bring cash for refreshments; vendors will be selling snack foods.
