New Spam Filtering in Outlook | Office 365
Over the past several months, the University has been rolling out various pieces of Microsoft Office 365. We offered students, faculty and staff Microsoft Office on their personal computers at no additional cost. We migrated all faculty and staff email and all ODU SharePoint sites to Office 365. And we have a couple more changes coming soon:
Spam Filtering
Beginning March 31, 2016, all incoming and outgoing email will be routed through Microsoft’s spam solution, Exchange Online Protection. You’ll be able to manage all of your junk mail directly from Outlook instead of setting spam settings within Spam Trap. Incoming mail that Microsoft believes to be spam will be routed to your Junk Email folder. Here’s how to filter junk email and spam in Outlook.
(A note about Spam Trap: If you’ve set any custom spam settings in Spam Trap, these settings will not transfer to Outlook. You may want to log in (spamtrap.odu.edu) and copy any addresses or domains that you’ve whitelisted or blacklisted. Spam Trap will remain available for a short time so you can compare your old settings to your Office 365 account.)
Instant Messaging
Over the summer, we’ll be upgrading from Microsoft Lync to Skype for Business on all University-managed Windows computers. We’ll have more information about that upgrade as summer gets closer, but you can find more information here.
If you have any questions about Office 365, spam filtering or instant messaging, you can always contact the ITS Help Desk at itshelp@odu.edu or 683-3192.
