COLLEGE CHALLENGE 2016

College Challenge 2016

During Spring Break March 7th through 11th 2016 the Facilities Management Recycling department is conducting the “College Challenge” which is a friendly contest that pits the staff and faculty of each of our colleges (College of Arts and Letters, Strome College of Business, Darden College of Education, Batten College of Engineering and Technology, College of Health Sciences, College of Sciences and College of Continuing Education & Professional Development) against each another to see who can recycle the most.

Please note that the winner will be determined by taking the total weight of recycled materials and then dividing by the number of faculty and staff in that college. This will help even the playing field because of the different sizes of each college. A daily entry of values can be found on the Facilities Management Recycling social media pages and our website. Please note that for the contest we will measure all of the various types of recycling streams namely Electronics, Paper, Cardboard, Plastics, Glass, Metals, Newspaper and all other recyclable materials and if you are planning an office cleanout, now is a good time to do so!

A special note to you about your electronic recyclables: To be a part of this exciting recycling effort and dispose of all your electronic materials correctly please remember this can be done in two ways - A). Electronic Items from University – ITS performs a procedure that's in place to insure all sensitive data has been removed from University computer equipment prior to disposal. This recycling program does not include any of your EFT inventory tagged equipment. The correct procedure for equipment that has a University ID tag number on it would be to have it first go through Procurement Services (Contact Person – Felicia Samuel @ 757-683-4810).

B). Electronic Items from Home - You can bring in all of the different types of your personal unwanted, outdated or broken electronic material and equipment that you may have and we will properly dispose of your items.

Why Recycle Electronics Properly?
The Proper destruction of electronic materials requires that it be sanitized, recycled, remarketed and/or disposed of in accordance with United States Environmental Protection Agency, the US Departmental Defense, Virginia Information Technology Agency (VITA) and the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) waste management regulations.

I encourage you to participate in this effort of sustainability.
