On Thursday, February 11, a panel of faculty members from the Department of Management will share ideas and technologies that have worked in their discipline, and might work in other disciplines, as well.  You’ll learn how they help their students “connect the dots” in a variety of ways – helping them build from what they’re learning in the classroom to what they’ll be doing in their careers.

Sara Morris, Associate Professor, has taught strategic management and corporate social performance courses at all levels, but most often teaches the undergraduate capstone course to graduating seniors.  Dr. Morris is known for breaking down big-picture problems (Should Ajax Co. acquire Acme, Inc.?) into small, analyzable components.  She will discuss the instrumentality of in-class discussion and writing-in-the-discipline to sharpen critical thinking skills.

Shaomin Li, Professor and Eminent Scholar, is the winner of the 2008 SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award, and teaches international business at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In his teaching, he encourages students to become “clock builders” rather than “time tellers” – in effect, working to develop his students’ mindset, ability, and inspiration to enable them to use knowledge in a systematic way throughout their lifetimes.

Rachel Frieder, Assistant Professor, teaches courses in Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management and researches topics surrounding getting ahead at work. In the classroom, Dr. Frieder connects abstract theories to concrete real-world application by encouraging students to interact with one another and the course material. The courses she teaches are designed to simulate organizational life such that the subject matter is experienced, applied, and role modeled throughout the semester.

You are cordially invited to join the Conversation. Come share your thoughts and ideas.
