Title: Essential Components of Counselor Professional Identity: a Delphi Study
ABSTRACT
Counseling is a young profession compared to other mental health professions in Italy. The uncertainty and disagreement about counselor professional identity appears to have a negative impact on the counseling profession. The opposite, understanding and cultivating strong counselor professional identity, seems important for the future of the profession. In order to strengthen counseling identity, enhance job performance, influence training programs, and promote advocacy efforts, a three-iteration Delphi study was conducted utilizing a panel of Italian counseling experts to establish a list of components of counselor professional identity in Italy.
