Faculty Diversity Workshop: Power | 2/16

Faculty Diversity Workshop: Power

In preparation for its two-day exploration of the subject at its Faculty Summer Institute on Teaching and Learning in May, CLT continues its series of Faculty Diversity Workshops.

Instructors who work to create and participate in diverse and democratic environments are aware of how identities intersect with larger structures to create conditions of power and privilege. Part of this process involves self-exploration, which is central to individual growth, our relationships with others, and our ability to promote equity.

This session explicates the broad impacts of structural inequalities imbued with historical, cultural, institutional, and interpersonal dynamics that routinely advantage some and oppress others.

Stephanie Sanders, Director for Diversity Initiatives, Institutional Equity & Diversity, welcomes Jeffrey Toussaint, Sociology, who will discuss power and privilege.

When: This workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 16 from 12:30-1:30pm.

Where:  1310 Perry Library, the conference room at the back of the Learning Commons
