March 21-22, 2016

Empowering Writers: Building upon Literacies, Languages, and Lives in the Writing Classroom

We strongly encourage experienced teachers at the secondary level, as well as instructors for two and four-year institutions, to submit proposals for panel workshops, hands-on workshops, and practical “strategy-oriented” teaching sessions that focus on topics relevant to middle, high school, and college-level instruction We are especially interested in proposals that address secondary level writing instruction, college writing instruction, and attempts to bridge the gap between secondary and college-level writing. We invite you to submit a 150-word proposal related to this year’s theme. Some possible approaches to the topic might include:

 How Disciplinary Standards Shape What Counts as “Good Writing”
 Building upon Students’ Cultural Experiences
 Bridging the Gap between Social Writing and Scholarly Writing
 Overcoming the Language/Culture Barrier
 Assessment of Multidisciplinary Writing
 Multidisciplinary and Use of Creative Writing to inspire or inform other Genres
 Innovative Classroom-ready lessons or exceptional student projects
 Strategies to promote Transference
 Archiving to capture Student Development (Learning Process)
