Last night for The Burial At Thebes!
Seeing ODURep’s The Burial at Thebes is akin to watching a current news feed - it is a vibrant, timely tale of civil disobedience, moral blindness, gender equality, hubris, free will, family and religious loyalty.
Written in antiquity, it presents concepts as debate-worthy and thought-provoking today as they were in 442 BCE: freedom vs. security, individual rights vs. governmental power, the high cost of pride, and the inherent risks, compromises and consequences of our personal, political, and social choices.
Steve Earle’s direction evokes the timeless nature of these issues, and the persistence of the tragedies of war, by blending and contrasting contemporary American and ancient Greek imagery. Seamus Heaney’s modern translation of Sophocles’ Antigone is timely and accessible while remaining true to the original poetic form.
Last show is tonight, Sat Nov 19, at 7:30 pm in the Goode Theatre on Monarch Way @ 46th.
We invite all to attend. Tickets are $15 and are available through ODUArtsTix.com or the Box Office at 683-5305.
