ODURep's The Burial At Thebes

The Burial At Thebes, ODURep’s Fall production directed by Steve Earle, opens Nov 9 and plays Wed-Sat nights at 7:30 through Nov 19 in the Goode Theatre on Monarch Way @ 46th.

The Burial at Thebes explores themes of freedom vs. security, individual rights vs. governmental power, religious right and wrong vs. legal right and wrong, duty to self and family vs. duty under the law, and especially the inherent risks, compromises and consequences of our personal, political, and social choices.

Written in antiquity, it presents concepts as debate-worthy and thought-provoking today as they were in 442 BCE. Mr. Earle’s direction evokes the timeless nature of these issues, and the persistence of the tragedies of war, by blending and contrasting contemporary American and ancient Greek imagery. Seamus Heaney’s modern translation is timely and accessible while remaining true to Sophocles’ original poetic form.

We invite all to attend. Individual tickets are $15 and are available through ODUArtsTix.com or the Box Office at 683-5305.
