Personal Financial Planning Major gets CFP Board-Registered

<table align="center" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="width: 789px; height: 280px;"> <tbody> <tr> <td style="width:722px;height:100px;"> <p> Dear Faculty and Staff,</p> <p> The College of Business and Public Administration is pleased to announce that the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards has approved <strong><em>ODU&#39;s </em></strong><em><strong>FIN:Personal Financial Planning Major</strong></em> as a registered program.&nbsp; CFP Board-Registered Programs are financial planning education programs at the university level that meet specific criteria for educating individuals who wish to fulfill the education component for obtaining <a href="http://www.cfp.net/become-a-cfp-professional">CFP&reg; certification</a>. Individuals who meet CFP Board&#39;s education requirement are eligible to sit for the CFP&reg; Certification Examination. Successful completion of the education and examination components completes two of the core prerequisites to obtain CFP&reg; certification, the third component being practical experience in the field.<br /> <br /> The CFP&reg;&nbsp;certification process, administered by CFP Board, identifies to the public that those individuals who have been authorized to use the CFP&reg; certification marks in the U.S. have met rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence when dealing with clients. Certified Financial Planner&trade; professionals are uniquely qualified to help individuals pull all their finances together, solve financial problems, and make a plan to achieve their financial goals.&nbsp; Only a select group of planners have met the rigorous requirements necessary to call themselves Certified Financial Planner&trade; professionals. CFP&reg; certification maintains rigorous standards and communicates your expertise and credibility.</p> <p> Becoming a CFP is an ideal career path for those who like to solve financial problems, help people meet their financial goals, and serve as trusted advisor, counselor and coach.&nbsp; As more and more individual are responsible for their financial future The financial planning career path is expected to grow 41% by 2016, according to <em>Money Magazine </em>and Payscale.com.&nbsp; Demand exists for individuals with a financial planning background as independent financial planners, and in the insurance, stock brokerage, and human resource professions.</p> <p> Students can use their <a href="http://my.odu.edu/">Degree Works</a>&#39; &quot;What If&quot; feature to see how their completed credits can carry over to the FIN:PFP major.&nbsp; The major was added in the 12-13 Catalog so a catalog change may be necessary to pick up the major.&nbsp; If a student wishes to proceed further and change their major (or concentration) coding, they can use our <a href="http://bpa.odu.edu/bpa/academics/advising/links.shtml">change of major forms</a>.&nbsp;</p> <p> If in doubt, please do not hesitate to let students know they may ask their advisor or email us at <a href="mailto:BusinessAdvising@odu.edu">BusinessAdvising@odu.edu</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> Sincerely,</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> Undergraduate Advising</p> <p> College of Business and Public Administration</p> <p> &nbsp;</p> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <div style="clear:both;"> &nbsp;</div>
