ODU Dance Theater Concert This Week

<p> The Old Dominion University dance program proudly presents its annual University Dance Theatre Spring Concert April 16<sup>th</sup>-19<sup>th</sup> at 8:00 PM and April 19<sup>th</sup> at 2:00 PM at the University Theater, Hampton Boulevard and 47<sup>th</sup> Street.&nbsp; This concert will include ballroom, jazz, and modern dance choreography by ODU faculty members and selected students.&nbsp; The performance will also include a piece by guest artist Natalie Teichmann.&nbsp;</p> <p> Ms. Teichmann is the Artistic Director of Anahata Dance, a company based in New York City. Her company is known for XXX its stimulating work for the stage and its exciting site-specific performances. Ms. Teichmann will be in residence at Old Dominion University March 17-22<sup>nd</sup> teaching classes and setting a work on dance students.&nbsp; The group piece presented in the concert will be the product of this six-day residency.</p> <p> Dance Program Director Amanda Kinzer and Assistant Professor Megan Thompson will both present new works in the concert. Professor Kinzer will premiere a new modern dance group work to music by Josh Woodward. The playful and energetic piece, entitled <em>Up and Down,</em> explores the potential highs and lows of a group dynamic. Professor Thompson&rsquo;s new work, entitled <em>Without Sinking</em>, is inspired by water, sinking vessels and beacons of light.</p> <p> &nbsp;Katie Iacono, adjunct professor and guest artist, will present excerpts from her evening-length work <em>Tie Shopping With My Father,&nbsp;</em>her master&#39;s degree thesis about the heart-and-soul-wrenching sport of wrestling. &nbsp;Specifically, she will present a solo titled&nbsp;<em>Vals Boston&nbsp;</em>and a restructured group work with nine students called&nbsp;<em>The Beginning.</em></p> <p> Also on the program is a piece by graduate student Sheena Jeffers entitled <em>Intransigence</em>. This dance was recently performed at the American College Dance Festival hosted by George Mason University.</p> <p> The concert will also include new works by adjunct faculty members and guest artists, Cara Goodwin, Danny Charles, Rachel Thorne Germond and undergraduate student Elijah Motley.</p> <p> Tickets are $14 for general admission and $12 for Old Dominion University students.&nbsp; Tickets will be available online at www.oduartstix.com, at the Arts and Letters Box Office in the University Theater, by phone at 683-5305, and at the door.&nbsp; For more information about the concert call 683-3002.</p>
