<p align="center"> The Center for Learning and Teaching<br /> invites you to participate in<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <strong>The Provost&rsquo;s Conversations on</strong><br /> <strong>Teaching and Learning</strong><br /> &nbsp;<br /> a brown bag lunch series *<br /> &nbsp;<br /> These conversations are intended to gather faculty members<br /> from all across the campus to share, to think,<br /> and to reflect on a wide range of teaching and learning issues.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> Come join the next conversation in this semester&rsquo;s series:<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <strong>Improving Courses and their End-of-Semester Evaluation<br /> using Mid-Semester Evaluations and Online Video Responses</strong><br /> <br /> led by<br /> <strong>Richard Landers</strong><br /> <strong>Assistant Professor<br /> Industrial / Organizational Psychology</strong></p> <p align="center"> <br /> <strong>Thursday, March 20&nbsp; |&nbsp; &nbsp;12:30-1:30pm<br /> Conference Room at the Learning Commons@Perry Library</strong><br /> &nbsp;</p> <p align="center"> <em>Presented by the Center for Learning and Teaching, the Office of Distance Learning,<br /> and the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Carol Simpson</em></p> <p align="center"> For more information:&nbsp; <a href="http://clt.odu.edu/pctl" target="_blank">http://clt.odu.edu/pctl</a></p> <p align="center"> Questions?&nbsp; e-mail <a href="mailto:clt@odu.edu">clt@odu.edu</a> or phone 683-4252</p> <p align="center"> * CLT will provide drinks and dessert</p> <p align="center"> &nbsp;</p> <p> The Provost&rsquo;s Conversations on Teaching and Learning are open to all faculty members, and offer the opportunity to reflect and share about the teaching and learning process.</p> <p> On Thursday, March 20, Richard Landers will lead a discussion about &ldquo;Improving Courses and their End-of-Semester Evaluation using Mid-Semester Evaluations and Online Video Responses&rdquo; Interacting with Students&rdquo; from 12:30-1:30 in the Conference Room of the Learning Commons@Perry Library.&nbsp; You are invited to participate.<br /> <br /> Dr. Landers conducts experimental research in the area of technology-enhanced learning and also in employee selection, with a focus on gamification, social media, assessment, and web-based instruction.&nbsp; He won ODU&rsquo;s 2013 Teaching with Technology Award for his use of social media and gamification in his own online courses.&nbsp; He also recently wrote an introductory textbook on statistics for business students, which, he reports, was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.</p> <p> In his Conversation, Dr. Landers will describe the inspiration that he found in industrial/organizational psychology to implement mid-semester student evaluations as a method to acquire better feedback about the design of online courses.&nbsp; He will discuss I/O psychology research on the impacts of developmental and administrative feedback on job performance ratings. Then he will explain his conclusion, drawn from that research, that instructors can minimize biases in end-of-semester administrative feedback by collecting and commenting upon mid-semester developmental feedback.</p> <p> Dr. Landers will demonstrate and discuss his particular approach to encouraging this mid-semester dialogue using recorded reaction videos posted online for his students.&nbsp;</p> <p> For more information about the Provost&rsquo;s Conversations on Teaching and Learning series, including highlights from past years&rsquo; Conversations and a calendar of upcoming Conversation dates, visit the Conversations&rsquo; website at <a href="http://clt.odu.edu/pctl">http://clt.odu.edu/pctl</a>.</p>
