ECE Graduate Seminar

You are cordially invited to attend the following seminar:

Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering

Old Dominion University

 GRADUATE SEMINAR

Multiphase Fluid Flows:

Computation, Analysis and Application

By

 Dr. Jin Wang

Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Old Dominion University

Friday, September 13, 2013

3:00 p.m. KH 224

Multiphase fluid flows with moving interfaces occur in a wide range of natural and technological phenomena. Owing to their strong nonlinearity and inherent multiphysics, our current understanding of the fundamental mechanisms involved remains limited. In this talk, we discuss two types of such problems: one for the interfacial motion between two viscous fluids (a two-phase flow problem), and the other for the motion of one or more solids in viscous flow (a fluid-structure interaction problem). We focus on the computational aspects, with some mathematical analysis to augment the computation when applicable.

In addition, we discuss several interdisciplinary applications, particularly the modeling and simulation of wave energy.

Bio:

Dr. Jin Wang is currently an associate professor of mathematics at Old Dominion University. Prior to joining Old Dominion in 2007, he was an assistant research professor at Duke. He received his Ph.D. in applied/computational mathematics from Ohio State in 2004. Dr. Wang’s research interests include scientific computing, fluid dynamics, and mathematical biology. He combines mathematical modeling, analysis, and numerical simulation in his work which is highlighted by the interdisciplinary nature.
