Key unmet needs include high risk of cardiovascular disease and major loss of beta cell function and mass. It is clear that chronic inflammation is a major cause for these disorders but exact pathways and targets have not yet been clarified. We have ongoing studies that indicate that the 12-Lipoxygenase and downstream IL-12/STAT4 pathways are important. We have developed mouse models and small molecule inhibitors to test this hypothesis. These areas will be discussed at the seminar.</p>
