Nadler, MD, FAHA, FACP, FACE</strong></p> <p align="center"> Eastern Virginia Medical School</p> <p align="center"> Norfolk, VA</p> <p align="center"> &nbsp;</p> <p align="center"> <strong>Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 9-10AM</strong></p> <p align="center"> <strong>IRP2 First Floor Conference Room</strong></p> <p align="center"> <strong>4211 Monarch Way</strong></p> <p> &nbsp;</p> <p> There is an epidemic of obesity and diabetes that is causing a major cost to the patients and health care system.&nbsp; Key unmet needs include high risk of cardiovascular disease and major loss of beta cell function and mass. It is clear that chronic inflammation is a major cause for these disorders but exact pathways and targets have not yet been clarified. We have ongoing studies that indicate that the 12-Lipoxygenase and downstream IL-12/STAT4 pathways are important. We have developed mouse models and small molecule inhibitors to test this hypothesis. These areas will be discussed at the seminar.</p>
