I-9 Employment Paperwork for International Students

Reminder - Please do not do I-9 employment paperwork for international students on non-immigrant visas in your department. They are required to do all employment paperwork in International Student & Scholar Services as we monitor their immigration status, determine if they are eligible to work based on that status, and assist Payroll in determining whether they are tax residents or tax non-resident aliens (NRA).

The hiring department is responsible for preparing the E-1S or the 108 form depending upon how the position is funded (ODU or ODURF) and ensuring they are registered for the correct number of academic credit hours to work. The funding source must be included in the employment offer letter. Please see attached for additional guidance and let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!

Emma Studer, International Student & Scholar Services (e-mail: intlstu@odu.edu)
