SUMMER INSTITUTE: Ken Bain, author of What The Best College Teachers Do, will offer the keynote address on Tuesday May 21, and you're invited.

<p align="\&quot;center\&quot;"> <strong>Ken Bain, award-winning author of <em>What the Best College Teachers Do</em><br /> will speak at Faculty Summer Institute on Teaching and Learning, May 21</strong></p> <p> The Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT) at Old Dominion University invites all research, teaching, and adjunct faculty from Old Dominion University and from across Virginia to participate in the</p> <p align="\&quot;center\&quot;"> 2013 Faculty Summer Institute on Teaching and Learning:</p> <p align="\&quot;center\&quot;"> <strong>Bridging the Gap Between Teaching and Learning</strong><br /> at the Ted Constant Convocation Center on May 21-22.</p> <p> <strong>Ken Bain</strong>, historian, educator, and author of the international best-seller <strong><em>What the Best College Teachers Do</em> </strong>(Harvard University Press, 2004) will offer the keynote address, <strong>&ldquo;Learning By Design: How to Foster Deep Learning.&rdquo; </strong></p> <p> Bain, currently Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of History and Urban Education at the University of the District of Columbia, has been the founding director of teaching centers at Vanderbilt, Northwestern, and NYU, as well as the Research Academy for University Learning at Montclair University.</p> <p> He is also the winner of four major teaching awards as a professor of history.&nbsp;</p> <p> His books, <strong><em>What the Best College Teachers Do</em></strong> and <strong><em>What the Best College Students Do</em></strong>, were awarded the Virginia and Warren Stone Prize for an Outstanding Book on Education and Society.&nbsp;</p> <p> In fact, <strong><em>What the Best College Teachers Do</em></strong>, one of the top-selling books on higher education in the last 25 years, has been translated into twelve languages, and it is the subject of a documentary series that was broadcast in April 2008 on EBS. &nbsp;Dr. Bain will sign copies of his books at the Ted Constant Convocation Center on Tuesday 5/21 at 4:30.</p> <p> Again, <u>you are most cordially invited to participate</u> in the Faculty Summer Institute on Teaching and Learning, designed to offer you a safe space to reflect on your teaching.&nbsp; Register at <a href="\">http://clt.odu.edu</a>.</p> <p> Or, for more information, contact CLT:&nbsp; or <a href="\">clt@odu.edu</a>.</p> <p> &nbsp;</p>
