Congratulations James Kling: 2013 ODU Student Employee of the Year

Every year the Career Management Center makes it a point to recognize student employees for their contributions and achievements at work through the Student Employee of the Year ceremony. The event is the apex of National Student Employee Appreciation Week and the Old Dominion University winner represents the university in the Regional and National contests. This year the Career Management Center received 16 nominations from mentors and supervisors all over the campus. Each nominee was rewarded with a certificate, a gift bag and an invitation to an awards luncheon on April 11th.

While all of the nominees stood out for their hard work and dedication, the judging committee ranked each student employee on reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism and uniqueness of contribution. The contest was competitive from top to bottom with only a few points separating every contestant. Ultimately freshman (and LEAP student) James Kling, a Biology major and Academic Assistant in Dr. Eric Walter’s Biology Lab received the honor of ODU Student Employee of the Year.

“James is at the top of his game and he far exceeds the work ethic of most of the seniors I have worked with over the past two decades. James is the epitome of the perfect student worker. There is absolutely no area that he needs to improve in. You won’t find a more dedicated, intelligent, punctual, polite, and friendly person in anyone but James." - Dr. Eric L. Walters, Nomination Letter for SEOTY. James is also actively involved in Sigma Pi and has received the Fraternity & Sorority Life New Member of the Year Award for his community service and philanthropy events on campus.

Each year the Old Dominion University sets out to make each student a better citizen. Very rarely does a student come along and immediately make the university a better place. Mr. Kling is one of those exceptions. Congratulations James Kling: 2013 ODU Student Employee of the Year.
