4/18- Complex Television Lecture and Reception

<p> A keynote address by: Dr. Jason Mittell<br /> <br /> Date/Time: <strong>APRIL 18TH, 2013 FROM 5:30-6:30</strong><br /> <br /> Location: BAL 1012<br /> Followed by a reception at the Baron and Ellin Gordon Galleries on Monarch Way<br /> <br /> Jason Mittell is Associate Professor of American Studies and Film &amp; Media Culture at Middlebury College. He is the author of Genre and Television: From Cop Shows to Cartoons in American Culture and Television and American Culture. He is also co-editor of How to Watch TV. His research interests include television history and criticism, media and cultural history, genre theory, narratology, animation and children&rsquo;s media, cultural historiography, and new media studies &amp; technological convergence.<br /> In his address on April 18th, Dr. Mittell will discuss his new book project, Complex TV: The Poetics of Contemporary Television Storytelling, which analyzes the transformations in television&#39;s narrative techniques in recent years.
