<p align="center"> The Center for Learning and Teaching<br /> invites you to<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <strong>CONNECT WITH COLLEAGUES</strong><br /> &nbsp;<br /> Each semester,<br /> a Connect with Colleagues workshop<br /> offers faculty members a chance to consider<br /> one specific issue related to teaching and learning.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> This semester&rsquo;s topic is<br /> <br /> <strong>Concept Mapping for Measuring and Promoting<br /> Conceptual Understanding</strong>&nbsp;<br /> led by<br /> <strong>Linda Irwin-DeVitis</strong><br /> <strong>Dean<br /> Darden College of Education</strong></p> <p align="center"> <br /> <strong>Monday, March 18&nbsp; 12:30-1:30pm<br /> Learning Commons Conference Room<br /> Perry Library</strong><br /> &nbsp;</p> <p align="center"> <em>Presented by the Center for Learning and Teaching</em></p> <p align="center"> For more information:&nbsp; <a href="http://clt.odu.edu/pctl" target="_blank">http://clt.odu.edu</a></p> <p align="center"> Questions?&nbsp; e-mail <a href="mailto:clt@odu.edu">clt@odu.edu</a> or phone 683-4252</p> <p align="center"> * CLT will provide light refreshments</p> <p align="center"> &nbsp;On Monday, March 18, Linda Irwin-DeVitis will lead this Connect with Colleagues workshop entitled &ldquo;Concept Mapping for Measuring and Promoting Conceptual Understanding&rdquo; from 12:30-1:30 in the Learning Commons Conference Room at Perry Library.</p> <p> This workshop will cover some of the basics about graphic organizers and the learning theory related to their use.&nbsp; Dr. DeVitis will demonstrate how to use graphic organizers to assess prior knowledge, to document learning, to address misconceptions, and to track students&rsquo; understanding of concepts and their relationships.</p> <p> Linda Irwin-DeVitis, Dean of the College of Education, has co-authored a book on this topic: &ldquo;50 Graphic Organizers for Reading, Writing, and More.&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p> Irwin-DeVitis began her career teaching in middle and high schools in rural school districts in Florida and Louisiana, and then moved on to hold faculty positions at SUNY Binghamton and Oneonta and at the University of Tennessee.&nbsp; She was associate dean for programs at the University of Louisville College of Education and Human Development.&nbsp; Directly prior to joining us at ODU, she was dean of the Lounsbury School of Education at Georgia College and State University.</p> <p> You are cordially invited to Connect with Colleagues on the topic of concept-mapping.</p>
