Libraries' Exhibit: CCSLRI and Mapping Community Storm-Related Vulnerability
<p> The University Libraries is pleased to announce an exhibit: “CCSLRI and Mapping Community Storm-Related Vulnerability.” Through the end of November, a series of 16 maps will be on display in the Learning Commons @ Perry Library. Also on display is information about the Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Initiative, featuring some recent publications by ODU researchers.</p> <p> ODU modeling and simulation researchers Joshua Behr and Rafael Diaz have been working on research to better understand and address community vulnerability to major storms. Results of surveys and other research have led to a series of 16 maps that address each of the vulnerabilities studied (e.g., mobility, medical, financial) with the hope that community planners can properly assess, prepare for, and recover from a severe storm event. </p> <p> In 2010, the Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Initiative (CCSLRI) was created from the belief that ODU can provide leadership and solutions to the effects of climate change and sea level rise in the urban coastal environment of Hampton Roads.</p> <p> Since then, CCSLRI has facilitated awareness, research and education in all aspects of climate change and sea level rise, both on campus and in the community. In fact, CCSLRI and Access EU hosted an international conference -- <em>Transatlantic Solutions to Sea Level Rise Adaptation: Moving Beyond the Threat</em> – here at Old Dominion University in October.</p> <p> Because of our location, there is special emphasis on adaptation to increased flooding.
