Participants in this past CLT’s Faculty Summer Institute on Teaching and Learning asked for more information about several topics, so the Connect with Colleagues series, this season, offers a closer look at Institute topics.

The second installment in the Fall Connect with Colleagues series is a panel discussion by members of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Committee to improve Interdisciplinary Writing. The QEP, which is becoming engrained in the ODU curriculum, encourages students to articulate a problem or question, identify and apply existing knowledge, assess the quality and the source of information, seek out an comprehend new information, formulate conclusions based on sources and empirical evidence, and finally, clearly articulate their conclusions and justifications in writing.

The QEP: Improving Disciplinary Writing effort has two central initiatives: Faculty Workshops and Action Project grants. During this panel discussion, you’ll meet members of the ODU faculty who have participated in the IDW Workshops and/or who have been recipients of Action Project grants. They will share some ideas that they have used to encourage critical thinking and writing among ODU’s students – along with examples of write-to-learn activities that have been helpful in the classroom.

You are cordially invited to join in this discussion about writing across the disciplines. Bring your colleagues!
