RECYCLING COLLEGE CHAMPION

Hello Faculty and Staff,

The Facilities Management Recycling Department conducted its annual “College Challenge” a friendly contest that pits the staff and faculty of each of our colleges (College of Arts and Letters, College of Business and Public Administration, Darden College of Education, Batten College of Engineering and Technology, College of Health Sciences and College of Sciences) against each another to see who could recycle the most during the month of October 2012. This is our second year for the competition and collectively the colleges were very successful by increasing their totals this year by 25% when compared to last year totals. We want to thank everyone who represented their college in helping them to meet their goals.

Please note that the contest winner was determined by taking total weight of recycled materials divided by the number of faculty and staff in that college. This helped even the playing field because of the different sizes of each college. A weekly entry of values could be found on the Facilities Management Recycling website. During the contest we measured two types of recycling streams-one for materials recycled within the campus building and the other at the college member's home. Both counted towards the total. The home report was self-generated and there was no need to bring any materials to the campus. Once all of the necessary data had been collected the contest winners were solely determined by the Facilities Managements Support Services Department. This years winner "The Darden College of Education" will be awarded the “COLLEGE CHALLENGE TROPHY” today November 15, 2012 as a part of the University's America Recycles Day activities.

With regards,

Harvey Logan

Harvey D.
