Hametz is an Associate Professor of History whose research focuses on Italian Fascism and on identity formation in the Habsburg monarchy and successor states in the era of the World Wars. Her works include <em>Making Trieste Italian, 1918 – 1954</em> (London: Royal Historical Society, 2005), <em>In the Name of Italy: Nation, Family and Patriotism in a Fascist Court</em> (Fordham U. Press, 2012) and a co-edited essay collection entitled <em>Central European Jewish Intellectual Women since the end of the Nineteenth Century: Twelve Biographical Essays </em>(Mellen Press, 2012), as well as numerous journal articles. Her current monograph project explores the rise of Italian cuisine in the United States from 1965 to the present. She teaches courses on modern European history, Fascism and Nazism, the World Wars, national identities, and historical methods. </p> <p> Her Conversation will focus on using strategies to link the past to the present in the teaching of history. It will discuss ways of engaging students in the study of the past in order to understand the present and to craft solutions and strategies for the future.
