He has used a modified version of mastery learning and reports strong results (within a 95% confidence interval).</p> <p> He publishes on best practices in Statistics and Research Methods, and studies academic self-concept and motivation to succeed in school.</p> <p> In addition, he is a second-degree black belt in Songahm Taekwondo and a father of three.</p> <p> In his Conversation, Osborne will consider the nearly-hundred years of research on student achievement, motivation, engagement, and resiliency. He will note that, while some in education focus on making learning “fun”, research and experience show that empowering students in the classroom is the surest path to long-term positive student outcomes, both in K-12 and in higher education.
