ODU Theatre Presents OEDIPUS
<p> </p> <p> Old Dominion University Theatre will be opening the Fall 2012 Season with a performance of the classic “Oedipus”. The show opens on Oct. 18<sup>th</sup> and runs through Oct. 27<sup>th</sup> with performances at 8 p.m. and a 2 p.m. matinee show on Oct. 20<sup>th</sup>.</p> <p> Show director, Patrick Mullins, has created a unique adaptation of the classic play “Oedipus” originally written by Sophocles and translated by Robert Bagg. By incorporating some new interpretations and the use of over-sized masks, it’s sure to surprise everyone.</p> <p> This modern interpretation follows Oedipus as he uncovers the cause of the plague sweeping Thebes. He learns the consequences of his past actions through the tragic lens of a daunting and formidable prophecy that predicted his murdering his father and marrying his estranged mother. Through extensive questioning, Oedipus discovers he is the cause of the disaster and destruction brought upon his city and family. His heart-wrenching reaction is enough to make even the Greek Gods weep.</p> <p> “Oedipus” opens on Thurs. Oct. 18<sup>th</sup> at 8:00 p.m. in the University Theatre located on Hampton Blvd. Other shows will be on Oct. 19<sup>th</sup>, 20<sup>th</sup>, 25<sup>th</sup>, 26<sup>th</sup>, and 27<sup>th</sup> at 8:00 p.m. and Oct. 20<sup>th</sup> at 2:00 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.oduartstix.com or by contacting the Box Office at 757.683.5305.
