- Description
- Dr.’s Julie Wilson and Emily Yochim (Allegheny College) presented their phenomenal ethnographic work on the emerging “mamasphere;” digital communities dedicated to parenting and motherhood. Here is a blurb: “Mothers today are anxious, constantly worrying about and working on their families. They are also constantly online, passing around parenting tips, happy family photos, and new health risks. This talk draws on extensive ethnographic research to show how mothers navigate their increasingly precarious family lives in conjunction with the mamasphere, the digital world of mothering media. NOTABLES: 53 attendees. The talk was co-sponsored with the Departments of Women’s Studies, Communications, and Geography and Political Science, the Women’s Center, SEES, Academic Affairs, the English Graduate Organization, the Rhetoric Society of ODU, MediaCommons, and the Honors College. This was the keynote talk for the Humanities Unbound Works in Progress conference.
