PALESTINE: ‘US to end funding to UN agency that helps Palestinian refugees’, New York Times, 31 August 2018
The US government will stop all funding it gives to the UN agency that provides assistance to millions of Palestinian refugees, ending a seven decade-long policy. The move was pushed by Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law and top adviser on the Middle East, to compel Palestinian politicians to drop demands for refugees to return to what they call their homeland. Each year, the State Department transfers money by the end of September to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, known as UNRWA, which provides aid to Palestinian refugees across the Middle East.
