On view August 24 - September 29

The medieval Spanish word aljamía refers to Romance languages written in Arabic script during the Golden Age of Islamic Civilization. This transliteration contributed to the spread of Islamic influences and the Arabic language throughout the Iberian Peninsula and beyond.

By understanding visual art as transliteration of one form of thought to another, artists Mohammad Saleh Amin, Jorge Benitez, Reni Gower, Hanane Korchi, Tamim Sahebzada, and Julia Townsend explore connections between the Middle East and the West that remain vibrant today.

Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
