Description
Robert Edge Pine's painting, Miranda, depicts a scene from The Tempest and recalls the importance and influence of William Shakespeare's work in eighteenth-century England. Accompanying maps and textual sources in this exhibition give a sense of Shakespeare's world, in part by recounting the shipwreck of a British vessel off the coast of Bermuda--a likely source of inspiration for Shakespeare's The Tempest--reflecting a British experience of the Americas. Presented in conjunction with Shakespeare 400 Years After: A Public Event. Exhibit continues through September 22, 2016.
