- Dr. Christian Pfeiffer, Director, Criminological Institute of Lower Saxony, Hanover, Germany TOPIC: The Abolition of the Parental Right to Corporal Punishment in Sweden, Germany and other European Countries: A Model for the United States and other democracies? Dr. Pfeiffer is a former minister of justice of the German state of Lower Saxony, past-president of the German Juvenile Court Association, served for 29 years as director of the Criminological Research Institute of Lower Saxony, Professor Emeritus of Law & Criminologist, University of Hanover, and frequent contributor to national media. Currently an invited scholar at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC, he seeks to extend a campaign against corporal punishment of children from Germany to the United States. His many publications and research interests include areas of juvenile justice practice and policy, role of religion and child rearing practices in production of violence; role of media in lives of children and the perception of crime and criminal policy, and the implications of corporal punishment of children in politics.
