The White Coat Ceremony, instituted by the Gold Foundation, emphasizes humanism in health care for first-year students in medical, nursing, physician assistant and other health professions programs. However, ODU conducts this ceremony prior to students' first clinical experiences. It serves as a powerful way to ensure that students know that they need not only technical skills but also compassion and caring.
