Women's volleyball has been in the works for more than a decade at Old Dominion University. And while it may have taken longer than some had hoped, the debut of ODU's team on Jan. 22 proved to be more than worth the wait. Affectionately nicknamed "Gordon" after the art galleries' namesakes — Baron and Ellin Gordon — this telepresence robot allows remote visits from around the world. "Gordon can move around the space, raise and lower height, and zoom in on art," said Cullen Strawn, ODU's executive director for the arts. "The remote driver can interact live with staff in the galleries and also invite friends, colleagues and students to join their visit. This is an innovative way of expanding access and will remain useful beyond the pandemic." Follow @oduarts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for updates on how to reserve your time with Gordon.
