Spring Commencement Exercises Set for May 10-11

Old Dominion University's 130th Commencement Exercises will be May 10 and 11 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. About 3,500 students will receive degrees in four ceremonies.

The schedule and speakers for the ceremonies:

May 10:

  • Retired Army Maj. Gen. Jeanette "Jan" K. Edmunds will speak at the Arts & Letters Undergraduate Ceremony at 2 p.m.
  • Carolyn Rutledge, professor of nursing at ODU, will address the Advanced Degree Ceremony (for master's and doctoral candidates for all academic colleges) at 6:30 p.m.

May 11:

  • Betsy Duke, chair of Wells Fargo & Co. and former member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, will speak at the Strome College of Business and Darden College of Education and Professional Studies Ceremony at 9 a.m.
  • U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine will address the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology, College of Health Sciences and College of Sciences Ceremony at 2 p.m.

Student information:

Students need to report at least one hour before their graduation ceremony to the check-in site at the North Mall of the Webb University Center. Ceremonies will begin with a march (weather permitting) from Webb Center across the seal on Kaufman Mall to the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The processional will be led by bagpipers and the university marshal, followed by the platform party. The student lines will follow the faculty.

Families and guests:

Guests should plan to arrive 30 to 60 minutes before the ceremony. If you are providing transportation for a graduate, he or she needs to be at the registration area no later than 60 minutes before the ceremony. Guests are asked to park in the 43rd Street Parking Garage.

A ticket is required to enter the Constant Center. Tickets are distributed only to qualified graduating students. Children over 3 require a ticket. Children 2 and younger are not required to have a ticket if they can sit in a parent's lap. If you do not have a guest ticket, auxiliary viewing will be available in the multipurpose room of the Constant Center.
