Old Dominion University Alumni Association to host inaugural Monarch Cobia Classic
The Old Dominion University Alumni Association will host its inaugural Monarch Cobia Classic July 14 and 15 at The Marina at Marina Shores in Virginia Beach. The fishing tournament was created to serve as one of the association's signature fundraising events. Proceeds will benefit the ODU Alumni Association Scholarship Fund and the ODU Student Fishing Club.
The competition will consist of two days of fishing, with lines in at 7 a.m. each day. Anglers will compete for cash prizes, reels, rods, outdoor equipment, gift cards and more. The top cash prize is $5,500, and the second place cash prize is $2,500 for cobia. Anglers will weigh in at Marina Shores and Salt Ponds in Hampton. The tournament will conclude with a Dock Party on Saturday, July 15, with live music and special guests.
"The Monarch Cobia Classic is a unique opportunity for the ODU Alumni Association to raise funds for student scholarships and to create a fun-filled event that will be enjoyed by alumni, friends of ODU and the Hampton Roads community," said John Duy, '92, M.B.A. '99, president of the ODU Alumni Association.
The entry fee for the Monarch Cobia Classic is $400 per boat. Guests who are not registered for the tournament may buy tickets to the Dock Party for $50 each. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.odulaumni.org/cobiaclassic.
